Polish Days: Nail-Venturous Floam

Hello everyone!

A couple of weeks ago, I managed to get my polished claws on Nail-Venturous Floam because Lauretta had an extra bottle and was kind enough to sell it to me. I've wanted Floam since seeing swatches of it and now, I can finally do my evil I-have-a-bottle-of-Floam evil laugh! *MUAHAHAHAHAHA*
Today is ...

Yup, Floam Day! A couple of us nail bloggers will be posting our Floam swatches together! Now, onto Floam!

Floam has matte neon blue and chartreuse glitter in a clear base and was inspired by Floam, a compound that contains polystyrene beads so that you can shape it and create with it.

I have never heard of Floam before this nail polish came out. The only mouldable compound I played with when I was young was Play-Doh so I thought Floam never came to Singapore but I was walking around Art Friend the other day and I actually spotted Floam! I must say, the polish really looks like Floam!!

But back to the nail polish. Application wise, the polish was on the thick side, so I added some thinner and that helped a little. Other than that, application was alright.

First, I applied a coat of Cult Nails Get It On base coat and then two coats of Essence Lime Up! It doesn't have to be perfect because we'll be painting Floam over it. :)

And now, for the star of the show...this is one coat of Floam over Lime Up! I have no idea where that black speck on my pinkie nail came from. With one coat of Floam, you can still see a lot of Lime Up! but if you like it this way, you can stop with one coat.

But oh no, I need more Floam! This is 2 coats of Floam.

Again, you could stop at 2 coats but not me. On to coat number three!

Floam does dry a little gritty so I did another layer of Cult Nails Get It On base coat before painting a coat of Wicked Fast top coat. I read that painting a layer of base coat before painting your topcoat will help your mani last longer so we'll see. Also, with two clear coats on top of Floam, it is gritty no more!

However, when I finally completed my mani, I was shocked at how thick my nail was.

It looked like I pasted a fake tip on my nail but it's not as obvious in real life and I think I'll be staring at Floam more than how thick my nails are. Just a little trade off for such a funky polish! (:

And I was so excited about owning Floam that I made a nail polish ring out of it that will be available on Posh Polish soon! (It looks less vibrant because I used a different base colour)

Now I can wear Floam on my digits without worrying about it chipping! :)

Teal Party (Franken)

The moment I saw Pretty and Polished Pool Party, I knew I had to have it!

I mean come on. How much prettier can a polish get? Favourite polish colour (blue): Check. Favourite trend right now (chunky glitters): Check.

But again, I just didn't have an affinity with Pretty and Polished polishes. They just kept selling out too quickly on etsy.

So I turned to what I knew how to do. Frankening. I wanted my franken to be a little different because I knew I was eventually going to lay my polished claws on Pool Party so I created a polish with a teal jelly base. And now, I present to you, Teal Party!

Once again, I loved the franken so much I made it into a ring and ear studs and drop earrings for Posh Polish.

The moment I saw the ear studs, I was so angry that I don't have ear holes because I'd love to wear Teal Party on my ears! :( (I can't pierce my ears because I have non-cancerous cysts that grow on my ear lobes from time to time.)

Thankfully, Pretty and Polished had a pre order and I can now look forward to getting Pool Party! :)

That's it for my newest frankens worthy of showing you all. I'll get down to doing up the new MAC Blue India comparison post I promised earlier on!

--------------

In my Giveaway post, I asked you guys for any suggestions / requests and I got some comments asking me to review more local polish. Most of the polish I blog about, like OPI, China Glaze, Essie, etc, are available locally through places like Smoochiezz or DYON International but just for your convenience, I'm gonna try to list down where I bought the polishes featured in each post from now on!

Easter In A Bottle (New Franken)

The moment I saw Pretty and Polished Party on my Yacht, I knew I had to have it but it's been proving to be a polish that's quite hard to get (but thank goodness for the pre-order thing now!) so I frankened a white-based glitter polish just to fulfill my POMY lemming for the timebeing.

This was what I came up with:

I know it's pretty different but it was good enough for me!

But after I came back from Korea, I added in a couple of the glitter polishes that I bought over there and this happened:

Somehow the extra chunky glitters I added changed the base colour of the polish to a less stark white, more like a very extremely light pink, which turned out to be a nice surprise. It gave the polish a softer look and looking at all the colours, I decided to name my franken Easter In A Bottle becase the colours reminded me of easter eggs!

I happened to be browsing through some blogs the other day when I came across a swatch of Nail-venturous Lacquers Robin Laid an Egg...

...and I was so shocked to find out how close my franken looks to it! YAY! Money saved! :)

The polish was so pretty I decided to use it to make a ring!

Gonna list it on Posh Polish in a couple of weeks (because I already have some collections worked out)!

Anyway, I have another Pretty and Polished-inspired franken post coming up soon. Yes, I'm loving her polishes so much and once again, I'm so glad for her new pre-order system!

ManGlaze Matte is Murder

First up, if you haven't heard of ManGlaze, what rock have you been living under?

ManGlaze currently offers 13 matte shades, and 2 matte topcoats (one clear and the other is a glitter top coat which I'm dying to try). They have the craziest, in-yer-face names for their polishes and they make no apologies for them!

Today I'll be showing you Matte is Murder, a matte black polish.

This is one coat of Matte is Murder. Now, we all know matte polishes dry REALLY quickly. You don't have to paint your nails with lightning speed but you still have to be quick enough. I've read a few sources and generally, it's adviced not to use a base coat below matte polishes as it may cause the application of the polish to be more streaky but considering how quick matte polishes normally chip, I decided to paint a coat of NailTek II (a matte base coat).

Back to the above picture, as you can see, with one coat, the polish does appear streaky but fear not.

This is two coats and the second coat definitely even things out. Yes, it's still a little streaky but I'm going to blame it on my application and not the polish. I haven't been painting my nails very often lately and so I've kind of gotten rusty with my application "skills" so I tend to have to take longer to paint my nails, which was what probably caused the streaks. Plus, my pictures are really zoomed in and the streaks aren't that noticeable irl. Seriously, go look at The TraceFace Philes' swatches and you'll see how awesome the ManGlaze formula is.

Another thing about ManGlaze polishes is their label designs. THEY ARE RIDICULOUSLY COOL. Seriously, look! It's art on a polish bottle!

I love that the labels are all matte too, really amps up the whole matte thing ManGlaze has going.

I then proceeded to paint glossy tips. I've seen so  many matte manicures with glossy tips and I've always wanted to try it! Plus, it's an added "cheat code" to help make your matte manicure last a little longer too.

One last thing. You don't ever have to worry about ManGlaze polishes looking flat. Matte does not have to look flat. No no...

...because when the sun hits this gorgeous polish, you can see turquoise and pink glitters! I mean, seriously, LOOK AT THIS BEAUTY. You have to click on the picture to enlarge it and see Matte is Murder in its full glory!

I don't know about you but I'm already convinced I need more ManGlaze. SERIOUSLY. I can't wait to see how Fatty's Got More Blood, ILF and Lesbihonest (love the name!) will look like on my nails!

I know it may be hard to get your hands on ManGlaze polish but I've got some good news to share!

EClecticCo is now selling ManGlaze polishes at $22.50 per bottle, or $21.50 per bottle if you buy 3 bottles and more. And the best thing is that shipping is available within Asia!

But wait, there's more! Quote "MGMELLE" when you purchase your ManGlaze polishes from EClecticCo and you'll enjoy a $1 discount for every ManGlaze product you buy! You can use the code even when you're buying 3 or more bottles, meaning you can save up to $2 per bottle! SO HURRY AND GRAB YOUR MANGLAZE POLISHES NOW!

April's Haul

I haven't been really successful on my low-buy but hey, at least it's a marked improvement from a lot of my other hauls!

Got these Kleancolors from a tiny spree that Lynn, Candy and I did! (L-R) Chunky Holo Black, Chunky Holo Bluebell, Chunky Holo Purple, Chunky Holo Fuschia and Holo Chrome.

L-R: Milani Hi-Tech, HD, Hi-Res, Silver Dazzle and Gem

I'm pretty much in love with the first three holos! They're not your typical strong linear holos but under the sun, they do spread some holo cheer!

Got Cult Nails Living Water and Iconic because I wanted to utilise my 10% discount from Meimiesignatures and I got Revlon Chic because I heard it's a good dupe for MAC Blue India. I'm gonna tell you upfront, it's not a dupe for Blue India. I'll do up a comparison post soon to let you see how they compare.

Moving on to some cheaper polishes - Daiso polishes, a Golden Rose bar glitter and lastly Nubar White and Black Polka Dot!

And now, for the best part of the haul, FLAKIES! I got all these flakies from Cheeying! She's now affectionately know as Evillee, my evil polish cousin! :D I LOVE YOU EVILLEE!

YAY! Done with April's Haul! I'm sorry if March and April's Haul are less detailed. I'm rushing these posts out as fast as I can because I have yet to finish packing for my trip (by the time you read this I'll be in Korea!!!) and I still have a few other stuff on my mind so my concentration is really scattered for the timebeing. So sorry but if you need more info about anything, just drop me a comment and I'll try to get back to you when I come back from my trip! (:

And btw, if you haven't already entered my giveaway, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! It's open internationally and it closes in two days so go enter it now!!!!!

March's Haul

I haven't exactly been a really good girl.

I know that.

But somehow, this addiction is not an easy one to kick, especially with so many enablers around.
So with that, I present to you March's Haul:

I'm absolutely in love with the entire Layla Hologram collection. Worth. Every. Single. Cent. Even though they're a bit sheer and require up to 3 coats to build up opacity, they are magnificantly holographic. They are sublime.

Where to buy: http://www.aveyou.com/

Here are the OPIs I picked up from the Holland and NYC Ballet collections. I got Red Lights Ahead...Where?, Roll In The Hague, I Have A Herring Problem, Pirouette My Whistle, Don't Touch My Tutu, My Pointe Exactly and Care to Danse. In case you're wondering, I bought all these OPIs from DYON International. They're always at *scape during the weekends so you can satisfy your OPI and China Glaze lemmings there!

Bought the first two because I wanted some bright colours and a proper orange, and how could I possibly resist the beauty that is I Have A Herring Problem?

As for the Ballet collection, I was so tempted to just grab the entire collection since I know I'd be using all the neutral shades once I start work this August, but with some help from my awesome polish buddies (HEY GIRLS!), they managed to convince me to only get 4 shades and save my wallet!

Moving to to theese gorgeous Ozotics that I purchased from Susan...these babies are to die for. The colour shift on these four bottles are CRAZY. Just take my work for it and order them. You will not regret it!

I'm so happy I finally got NOPI Khloe Has A Little Lam Lam! I must admit, Khloe is my favourite Kardashian. She's so inyerface and she's just one of those people you either love or hate and I LOVE her. I also got Rainbow in the Sky-lie cuz it's a pretty good dupe for Rainbow Connection and I figured it'd be good to have a "backup" just in case! The two NOPIs were purchased at Watsons.

I also got Stone Cold and Smoke and Ashes from the China Glaze Capitol collection, which were reviewed here. They're really pretty and I bought them from DYON when they were in NTU for a flea!!!!

And last buy not least, I bought OPI DS Diamond during Nailvibe's sale so I got a pretty good deal for it. As for Revlon's Whimsical, Gwen managed to work her magic and helped me to get a bottle. THANK YOU GWEN, IF YOU'RE READING THIS! And I think I saved the best for last, with Max Factor's Fantasy Fire! My friend managed to help me grab a bottle and I will be eternally grateful to her!

So yeah, that's it for March's Haul. I think I did pretty well in March! I didn't take too long typing out all the info so I think the haul was pretty contained! :D
