Glamazon

Ever since I've seen swatches of OPI DS Glamour, I've been lemming for it big time and I don't see how I'm gonna be able to get it anytime soon so I thought I'd better franken a similar version myself! I used 1 part China Glaze First Mate, 2 parts clear and 1 part DS Sapphire (although any light coloured holo polish would do the trick). I then added a few drops of OPI Ski Teal We Drop and Elianto black polish to tailor the colour to my liking! And in tribute of DS Glamour, I decided to name my franken Glamazon!

Here is Glamazon next to DS Sapphire so you can see the holo rainbow.

This was how much DS Sapphire I used. It's about 1/4 of the franken bottle. I bought a spare bottle of DS Sapphire when I managed to find it, with plans of creating frankens like Glamazon!

It's as holo on the nails as it looks in the bottle!

Sadly, after letting the bottle sit for a while, some holo particles did sink to the bottom of the bottle, making it a very pretty sight so I do suggest shaking your holo polishes up before using them!

Look at all that holo goodness at the bottom of the bottle!

And here's where the spam begins. I'm going to apologize first, for the crazy amount of pictures as I got a little carried away trying to capture this pretty shade!

The colour in the above picture is the most accurate although it is slightly darker irl.

And some out of focus shots to emphasise the holo bits...

Loving how there'a a slight holo rainbow arc in the above pic!

A ray of sunlight shot into my room and I ran to it and snapped this picture!

That's Glamazon on my index in sunlight! (I know I have another 2 much more holo polishes on my other two fingers but I'll show you those 2 polishes in due time!)

That's the end of the picture spam (you can rejoice now)! Glamazon does look more holo in real life but it was hard to capture its full holo glory so you'll have to trust me on this. I do sometimes wish I have some spectraflair to add into my polish to make them linearly holo! There is a lady selling it in the US but it's 10USD per gram plus $5 shipping so I'm thinking hard whether it's worth the pricetag!

August Haul

I know I'm a month late but I was waiting for a couple of polishes I ordered in August to arrive and they finally have!

Gonna apologize now for the crappy pictures to come. I didn't have much time to take them so they're not really colour accurate!

Close ups:

L-R: Rubi Emerald City (I hate how it never remains a uniform colour in the bottle), Tony Moly TR05, OPI Uh Oh Roll Down the Window, OPI A Taupe Space Needle

I really like these 4 colours! Totally no regrets buying any of them! Just showed you guys A Taupe Space Needle just a while back and I gonna have a military green comparison soon with Uh Oh Roll Down the Window soon so watch out for that!

L-R: Misa Push Up Bra, CND Tropic Coral, OPI I Lily Love You

I hate how similar the Misa and CND colours look! Plus I stupidly ordered them in the same spree so it's an extra bummer! I was so into the whole coral thing bac when I placed the order and I wasn't expecting them to be so pink! :( I have Tropic Coral on my digits now and I'm feeling so bimbotic because it's so bright and it's just pinker than I thought it'd be. The only plus point is that it really goes with my skintone so it's really just a matter of personal preference! That said, I like the brush and the formula of Tropic Coral! And as pink as I Lily Love You is, I layered over Road House Blues and it's AMAZING!

L-R: Color Club After Hours. OPI Road House Blues, China Glaze Meteor Shower and China Glaze VIII
GOD, I ordered VIII and when I got it, the cap was loose and it made the polish so friggin extra thick! I even added 16 drops of OPI Lacquer Thinner and still no change! In the end, I decanted some into a smaller 5ml bottle and added some clear polish and I actually love it so much more like that! It's now a 2 coater jelly and it looks a little lighter so it doesn't look like black under low lighting anymore! YAY! I also made another more jelly version (very jelly, it probably needs 4-5 coats to be opaque) and it's really good for a jelly glitter sandwich! Really disappointed with transdesign (I'm not blaming the spree conductor cuz I know it's not her fault) though.

Love the other 3 polishes though. LOVE!

And lastly, I got a couple of empty 5ml bottles along with some metal ball bearings for shaking!

I FRIGGIN LOVE THESE BABIES! I've already made a couple of frankens! They are the perfect size for frankening because they're small so you don't really make too much of something! I actually want more so if you're reading these, can someone please organize a TKB spree? PRETTY PLEASE? In case you're wondering, I paid $0.97 per bottle including shipping.

Okay, end of my August Haul! I guess I actually bought less polish then I imagined! YAY!

Ombre Manicure

Read this article so many months ago and I really like the taupe graduation so I decided to try my own! I own most of the colours needed but I didn't wanna use Chanel Paradoxal because I consider it so precious so I decided to use other colours close enough!

I used (from thumb to pinkie) OPI You Don't You Know Jacques, OPI Over the Taupe, Color Club High Society, Misa Pay Days Are Happy Days and Essie Body Language.

Sadly, High Society has a tinge of purple so Over the Taupe and You Don't Know Jacques didn't really work. I must say that once I had Over the Taupe on my nail, it looked so yummy and chocolaty!
Soooooo, I decided to change the polish on my index and thumb nails!

Changed the polish on my thumb and index to Essie Smokin' Hot and China Glaze Below Deck and the ombre manicure looks so much better! Rocking an ombre manicure is such an easy way to be a little more edgy without trying to hard. It's just painting on different colours on different nails!

Can't wait to rock a blue and green ombre manicure soon!

China Glaze Sea Spray (with Nubar 2010)

I bought Sea Spray soooooo long ago and I haven't worn it before (I've only swatched when I first got it just to see what it'd look like on my nails, and then I took it off) so I decided to give it a test run. I was so in love when it when I first saw it on ALU and I just had to have it!

I had quite a rough time trying to photograph its colour accurately. It was either too blue or too grey and this was the best I could do!

I hope you can see the secret shimmer in Sea Spray in these pictures! Click to enlarge them!
I wore Sea Spray for 2 days just on its own ad then I got a little bored and decided to spice things up with Nubar 2010!

Here's how Nubar 2010 looks on top of Sea Spray, straight on. Mostly purple and blue flakes. I've been trying to get 2010 to looks purple on a lot of polishes as base but it never does. It always looks orange and green only so imagine my delight when I saw purple flakes on Sea Spray! Oh, but the magic had just begun!

When I placed my nails at an angle. I could see purple, orange and green flakes!

AND THEN THIS HAPPENED! You NEED to click on the pictures to enlarge them and get a better view of the flakes! The colours are so much more vibrant when the pictures are bigger.

This was my favourite picture of the bunch!

I must say, I almost took off Sea Spray altogether because I was getting a bit bored with the colour and I'm so glad I decided to layer on 2010 instead! I'm gonna try layering 2010 on top of lighter shades from now on to try and get the different colours of the flakes to shine. They appear mostly orange and green on most darker shades and I want to see more blue and purple coming out!

In other news, I just managed to snag China Glaze DV8 and 2nite from a fellow nail enthusiast! She had spare (unused) bottles and were selling them and I immediately jumped on this opportunity to own part of the China Glaze OMG collection! Now, it's not OMG but at least they're both still very pretty! Can't wait for them to arrive!!

OPI A-Taupe Space Needle

My original plan with the latest OPI Touring America collection was simply to get Uh Oh Roll Down the Window, Road House Blues and Are We There Yet? but when I went swatching at Robinsons and tried on A-Taupe Space Needle, I knew I had to get it. It reminded me so much of Chanel Khaki Brun are that scored brownie points in my book!

I recently wore it and although on some people it looks brown (taupe) with a slight hint of green, on me, it looked distinctively olive green with a slight hint of brown!

This was taken in natural sunlight.

Here's a picture taken with flash. The flash seemed to have brought out it's true taupe form.

I was initially happy with it, sometimes sneaking a peek at my nails just cuz the colour made me happy (I hope I'm not the only person who does this) UNTIL one friend said it reminded her of shit. I know taupes sometimes get bad reputations because they're almost the same colour as poo but still! Then I went around asking the rest of my friends whether the colour (or rather, my nails) look like shit and majority of them said no, because of the green in it. The best answer though, was from my good friend, who said "Of course not! The colour of shit won't be so nice and even because there'll be chunks of digested food inside!" HAHA! That made my day man! Another friend, upon seeing my nails asked if they were olive green, and so I was pretty sure it didn't look like shit on my nails!

I used 2 coats in the pictures with a coat of SV on top. Application was fine, especially with OPI's pro-wide brush! Apparently this new OPI collection is Big 4 free (I don't really know what's the new chemical that they banished) but it smelt and applied the same for me, with any other Big 3 free OPI polish. A healthier polish that applies just as well is a huge plus in my books! Way to go OPI!

Fun Nail Ideas

Was just browsing some nail blogs and I came across this apple nail design that was just too cute not to share! It's from Cosmetic Cupcake so click on the link to find out what polishes she used and how to go about painting the design!

Next, I also came across this youtube video I saw on tumblr and it teaches how to do a pretty cool floral design just by using a dotting tool and tooth picks (for the flowers)!

Hope you get some inspiration the next you you do your nails! (:

Color Club Holographics Reloaded

I know I already have two posts on these two polishes but I feel I haven't captured their true holo potential!
Thumb to pinkie: TFS BK901, CC Revvvolution, CC Revvvolution, CC Worth the Risque and CC Worth the Risque

I totally found a sweet spot with lots of sun to take pictures of holographic polishes! The last three pictures were taken under my table lamp though. I felt that Revvvolution looked better under my table lamp. I really like Worth the Risque in the fifth picture! Click on the pictures to enlarge them, I assure you they look SOOOOO much better bigger. I haven't really been able to capture the bling bling gorgeousness of Worth the Risque until now so I'm really happy with my sweet spot! I must say that I have the dud versions of the two holo shades so they are less holo than the original versions. It's like the stupid dud version of OPI My Private Jet.

In other polish news, my Nfu Oh order got through and I'm now waiting in 61, 51 and their aqua base to come!!! :D Can't wait for them to arrive! Hope the new 61 will still be holographic even though it's like the new dud version. Dammit, why am I always late to the party and getting the dud versions! D:

Magazine Nails: September

Bought Elle and Cleo this month and I dutifully tagged the pages with interesting nail features!

First up, Cleo!

The crackle trend continues with TFS' crackle polish. I tried the grey version out in Malacca and it dried matte as most crackle polishes do. The thing was, I didn't apply a top coat on top and by the end of day two, the crackle polish started fading.

Cleo didn't have much nail features but I did spot a cute mint coloured manicure on the model in this vintage-inspired spread.

I think the mint really compliments the vintage feel!

It's a little greener than in my picture.

Love the nails with the skirt!

And we're done with Cleo. Now for Elle!

I LOVE FANN'S NAILS!

Close ups! Gonna try this design soon!

They used Yoga-ta Get This Blue and Play the Peonies on her nails!

Love this picture of her in the magazine! So Twiggy-inspired!

On the inside, loving the colour block nails!

And they said they used Color to Dine For, Black Onyx and Sparrow Me the Drama. REALLY? Either they photoshopped the pictures too much (AGAIN. Remember last month's cover?) or they simply stated the polish names wrongly. Both are equally bad!

I think they used the same colours for the next page, or rather, the same model and she didn't change her nail colours. The colours stated on this page are more like it!

Also found an interesting article! Click to enlarge and read!

Your nails can be the first signs of aging so take good care of them and moisturise! I've been trying to apply glycerin to my nails everytime after I wash my hands after reading this article!

I love it when they have a page full of polish! But oh, too much photoshop / messing up the polish names AGAIN!

I've seen Revlon Midnight Affair in Watsons and it's NAVY BLUE. My guess is they used Revlon Steel Her Heart or Sliver Screen.

I also think they meant Chanel Peridot!

I know they've got major datelines and they don't have much time to do each article but at least make sure to get the names right! It's so important because some people actually see stuff they like and get them based on the pictures in magazines!

Anyway, absolutely loving the colour block nails and I tried tham out a few days ago! Pictures will be up soon in a separate post!
