The Hot Taupes with Bling

Collected my polishes from Estella and I'm one happy girl! Essie's Smokin Hot and Hot Coco from the latest Winter Collection are up for comparison in this post!

Here is Smokin Hot in it's full glory (with flash)!

This is without flash. The picture's blur, I'm sorry, but the colour's pretty accurate here! It's a really smokey purple-grey!

Next to OPI Parlez-Vous OPI? and you can see Smokin' Hot is so much darker than Parlez-Vous.

Smokin Hot on the left with OPI You Don't Know Jacques on the right! YDKJ is obviously so much browner so no dupes here!

With flash so you can see the difference in different lighting and know I'm not fooling you with my pictures!

L-R: OPI You Don't Know Jacques, Essie Hot Coco and OPI Over the Taupe

Above to bottom: OPI You Don't Know Jacques, Essie Hot Coco and OPI Over the Taupe

L-R: Essie Smokin Hot, OPI You Don't Know Jacques, Essie Hot Coco and OPI Over the Taupe in natural lighting, without flash.

Same order but indoors, with flash

And if we back up a bit, you'd see that the last three colours are VERY similar! They form such a nicer gradient that I hard a hard time telling them apart. We all know how YDKJ is so different from OTT but put Hot Coco in the middle and you have yourself a nice graduation of taupes!

L-R: OPI Bring on the Bling and Sparkle-icious

And an out of focused picture taken on purpose to show the awesome glitter particles! As you can tell, Bring on the Bling is more gold based whereas Sparkle-icious has purple, blue and gold glitter specks.

I must mention though, the glitter particles in Sparkle-icious is larger than those in Bring on the Bling, which meant that when I painted the bling bling tips below, they formed a rather thick tip layer especially for Sparkle-icious. And I was afraid this might mean they would chip more easily so I painted a coat of Poshe over it and the tips actually lasted 3 days at least! I was impressed!

I painted 2 coats of Smokin Hot and Hot Coco for all the pictures here! They were very pigmented and I must say Essie has been doing a good job with theit newer polishes! YDKJ needed 3 thin coats for full opacity and Over the Taupe needed 2 thicker (than average, but just a little) coats. I used 2 coats for the Bring on the Bling tip and 3 for Sparkle-icious. Hope you guys like the taupe comparison!

  3. @madlynny: I didn't realise that but it's so true! Their base colours are indeed similar! The one I franken does have some duochrome shimmer though but it's hardly noticeable unless in sunlight, while Smokin Hot is a creme! I guess you can tell the kinda colours I like my polishes to be! (:

@jeaninely: You should try the sparkly polishes with a french mani! Me and my friend call it our princess manicure look! :D In fact, the OPI sales assistant told me a lot of people are choosing that kinda look now! Plus they're a good way to cover up any chips on the tips and spice up an old manicure!
