My My BabyBlue

My my baby blue // Yeah I been thinkin bout you

Love that Aerosmith song! But anyway,

Awesome light light blue right??? And it costs only $2.10!!!! It's BL503 from Nature Republic and it only needed 2 coats for opacity. How cool is that? Honestly, it reminds me of the promo pic of Riva.

Case in point:

Now we all know it doesn't look like the real Riva but it's still a gorgeous gorgeous almost white-out blue and it makes my nails look really clean and neat.

Perhaps I should go get another bottle for back up? (:

Pale Icy Blues

I normally meet my friends at Boon Lay to take the bus to school together and I was early one day so I decided to take a walk around JP. Bad idea knowing that JP has Nature Republic and they sell a bottle of polish at only $2.10! Couldn't resist such an attractive price so I ended up buying 2 bottles of blue! The first one was a paled out, almost-white blue (BL503) and the other was a pearly blue (BL501).

L-R: BL503 (2 coats), BL503 with BL501 layered on top (2 coats of 503 with one coat of 501) and BL501 (2 coats)

I was trying to recreate Chanel Riva by layering the two because that was what I was thinking of when I bought them!

I also painted a layer of BL501 over 2 layers of OPI Black Onyx (a simple, straight up black creme polish) on my pinkie and I love how the black base made the end result a much darker pearly blue!

Close up for you to see better!

Close up of all the nails, and hopefully you can see the creme finish on the index finger vs the pearly finish on all the other 3 fingers! The thin layer of BL501 also made the overall look just a tinge bit darker on the middle finger(2 coats of BL503 and one thin coat of BL501 on top, to refresh your memory)!

Here's how they look if we back it up a little. I'm starting to dig the two blues layered together after seeing these pictures!

Overall, I'm really impressed with how pigmented the pale blue creme was. I was expecting to have to do 3 to 4 coats but it only needed 2 coats to be opaque so kudos! Plus it's so cheap and the brush is really decent so the polish is a good polish to play around with! I don't know how long they'll last though because I took the colours off after swatching them but the last time I tried Nature Republic polishes, they chipped really fast. Oh well, how much can you expect out of a $2.10 polish?

Hope the monday blues aren't getting to you!

First Ever Spree

When I did ordered from the first spree I ever ordered from, I was really excited and had such high hopes. I wanted to get Essie Greenport, OPI Damone Roberts, Hey! Get in Lime and so many other colours I now know are discontinued. So after all the emails back and forth with the organiser, the only polish I could order that I initially wanted was OPI My Private Jet. I first saw it in the notebook doodles and I instantly fell in love with its colour and holo glitter.

Since then, my nail polish collection has grown from this:

To this:

All in a span of five months. It may not look like a lot but I did up a rough estimate of how much I've spent on polish within the last 5 months and the figure nearly killed me. Bear in mind that I'm still a student and I have no monthly income from a job to support my polish buys. I'm not showing off either. Please don't mistake me for doing that. Just showing you how much of a polish addict I am.

On to swatches of MPJ, I took this picture the day I went to collect it! I read so much about it before purchasing it and I couldn't wait to try it on! MPJ is the one on the right. The picture below was taken in sunlight while the one after was taken under a lamp. Oh, and in case you are wondering, the pink polish is OPI Pink of Hearts 2 (I think). I went to collect it for my friend and swatched it on for memory!

Here I have MPJ on my toes and a silver polish from Nature Republic on my fingers! I loved this combi and I felt so space-age when I had it on!

I totally love the holographic glitter bits in there and if you did not know this, MJP actually has a couple of versions. Sadly, mine isn't the original super holo one and it's more brownish than charcoal based! I just ordered China Glaze Fairy Dust, which is a clear holographic glitter, hoping to further enhance the holo in this lovely polish with it! Can't wait for it to come! I also got Color Club's Revvvolution (which some say is a similar polish) so there'll definitely be a comparison post when I get those two new polishes!
